JB Watkins Spirit Rock

The JB Watkins Spirit Rock is back for another year of celebrating our amazing school community! Whether you’re wishing a student a happy birthday, recognizing an accomplishment, thanking a teacher, cheering on a team, or simply sharing a message of encouragement, the Spirit Rock is a colorful way to make someone’s day.

We’re grateful to our community and school partners, Luck Stone, Watkins Nurseries, and the W.A.T.C.H. Dogs, for bringing this tradition to life. We can’t wait to see all of the creative messages this year. The possibilities are endless—celebrate, encourage, inspire, and have fun!

The JB Watkins Spirit Rock helps build community, promotes school and PTA events, and serves as a PTA fundraiser. It is for the use of current JB Watkins Elementary families only.

Reservations

  • Reservations are required
  • Dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The cost is $20 per day (4:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.) — RAIN OR SHINE.
  • Payment is due at the time of reservation. No other forms of payment will be accepted.

Painting Guidelines

  • You may begin painting the rock at 4:30 p.m. the day BEFORE your reserved date.
    • Example: If your child’s birthday is April 15th, reserve April 15th and begin painting at 4:30 p.m. on April 14th.
  • Please use spray paint with a primer for the base and acrylic paint for lettering or details.
  • A parent must be present while painting the rock.
  • All wording and images must be encouraging, kind and uplifting.
  • No businesses, religious, or political messages.
  • Do not paint or park on the grass.
  • Do not climb on the rock.

Helpful Tips

  • It’s best to start with a primer coat of spray paint before adding your design.
  • Use acrylic paint for detailed lettering or smaller decorations.
  • You can freehand your design or use stencils for clean, bold letters.
  • Have a bucket of water and rags ready for cleaning brushes and hands.

The PTA reserves the right to remove or repaint any design or language that is deemed inappropriate. The PTA also receives first choice for reserving dates for PTA messaging.
