Welcome to JBW Chess Club! We’re excited for another year of chess, friendship, and fun. Whether your child has played chess for years or is just learning the rules, we’re glad to have them join us. Chess Club is open to students in any grade level.
Registration
Please register to become a member of JBW Chess Club for the full year. No in-person registration per session or cash will be accepted.
PTA Participation Waiver
Don’t forget to ensure your child has an up-to-date PTA Waiver on file. The waiver was sent home with your child during the first few days of school. If you haven’t already signed and returned it, please print it from the link below, sign it, and have your child bring it on Friday.

Chess Club will meet in the JBW Cafeteria from 8:15am to 9:10am on select Fridays throughout the year.

Chess Club will not meet on snow days or any other days when school is cancelled. Cancelled meetings will not be rescheduled.
Drop-off Details
Arrival: No earlier than 8:10am. Doors remain locked until then, so please don’t leave children unattended beforehand.
Location: Cafeteria only. Students need to stay within this area during club time.
Registration: Only drop off children who are registered for Chess Club.
Courtesy: Please respect our parent volunteers and follow their guidance.
Volunteering
We’re looking for helping hands! Our volunteer opportunities include snack coordination, check-in assistance, and game support. You don’t need to be a chess expert (or know anything about chess), we just need help keeping things running smoothly.
We’d also love to hear from volunteers who do know chess and can advise our players, especially available grandparents. If you have a grandparent who is interested and isn’t already involved in PTA, please let us know so we can add them to our email list.
What to Expect
Chess Club welcomes students of all levels, from serious tournament players to kids who are simply curious about the game and want to spend time with friends.
Most learning happens naturally as students play with each other, gradually finding good matches and improving their skills. Our parent volunteers help with finding opponents, sharing helpful tips, and resolving occasional conflicts. We aim to offer structured beginner lessons when we have enough volunteers available.
Later in the year, we organize an optional chess tournament where kids are matched by grade level using the Swiss System (or something like it), with trophies for the top three players in each grade.
Breakfast and Food Allergies
Each meeting we provide a light breakfast of muffins, milk, and fruit. Please email chessclub@jbwpta.com if your child has any food allergies.
